For those of you tracking the budget negotiations more closely, Politico passed along a tweet from Representative (D) Gregory Meeks:
“House R’s cuts to @StateDept and @USAID make last week’s ‘China Week’ pure lip service.” Meeks added that “you can’t win a great power competition on a middle power budget. If we’re serious about competing with China, we must fund diplomacy and development, not undermine them.”
These comments indicate how difficult it will be for both parties to agree on a policy to counter China’s influence around the world.
