Amid a “massive increase in government funding to address the COVID-19 crisis,” Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has announced he will introduce legislation to make changes to the False Claims Act to grant whistleblowers more protections. A prominent advocate for the FCA, Grassley wants more whistleblower protections for instances where the Department of Justice seeks unilateral dismissal authority of whistleblower lawsuits as outlined in the Granston memo. This authority has been used more times since that memo was issued in January 2018 than it was in the 30 years prior.
