Homeland Security Investigations, an arm of DHS, reports the successful disruption of a cyberattack on the servers of a privately owned telecom service in Hawaii, leading to an arrest. The unnamed international hackers reportedly had credentials to access the company’s systems; their intentions were not clear to the HSI agent in charge in Hawaii. As much as 95% of intercontinental internet traffic is carried by undersea cables, which are increasingly being managed remotely, further exposing them to hackers.
