In the latest effort by the administration to counter national security threats posed by Chinese products and services, DHS has issued a “business advisory” which warns against using hardware and services from Chinese companies. DHS warns that businesses will be subject to a new law that will require them to turn over data to the government “under the pretense of national security.” Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf urged businesses to exercise caution before entering into any agreement with a PRC-linked firm.

Many U.S. officials and private-sector analysts fear that Beijing has already collected vast amounts of data on Americans for intelligence operations that could threaten national security. Additionally, the breaches of the Office of Personnel Management, Equifax and Anthem health insurance have all been linked to Chinese nationals.
