The ABA Commercial Products and Service Committee will have two speakers addressing developments in commercial item determinations that will benefit both private and federal practitioners.
First, from the DCMA Commercial Item Group, is Patrick Crisler speaking about a recent initiative seeking non-traditional and traditional defense contractors who would like to have a commercial item determination issued for their product(s). The initiative targets products in the following areas: Space Systems, Unmanned & Autonomous Systems, Energy and Materials, Ruggedized & High performing computer components, IMUs, Engines, and High Energy, Long Cycle Life Batteries. There are many benefits from this early engagement with industry, the foremost being to speed up the acquisition process overall.
The second presenter is Yuan Zhou from Crowell & Moring LLP, who will be addressing legal developments in commercial item determinations throughout the Government. Ms. Zhou’s presentation will focus on changes to the DFARS concerning commercial item determinations and the FAR’s bifurcations of commercial items into commercial products and commercial services.
