Enforcement of anti-corruption laws remains a top priority for U.S. government agencies and countries around the globe. The U.S. Department of Justice recovered nearly $2.6 billion through Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement in 2019, while convicting thirty individuals of FCPA related offenses. While COVID-19 has slowed the pace of corporate enforcement actions, 2020 started with a bang, with a large FCPA resolution against Airbus SE and the convictions of at least eight individuals to date. Stamping out foreign bribery and corruption remains a high priority for U.S. officials and a critical compliance concern for corporations and individuals alike, who should expect FCPA enforcement to resume in earnest as the global pandemic eases and travel increases.
