John Seasholtz and four agricultural companies he owns have settled allegations that they knowingly lied on Paycheck Protection Program loan applications. Mendota Land Co., Sweetwood Farm Co., Sweetwood Farm, and Seasholtz Co. were accused of over-counting the number of people they employed, by counting contract workers employed by other entities, in violation of both the False Claims Act and the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act. Seasholtz and his companies allegedly received PPP funds of $1.8 million more than they were eligible to receive; Seasholtz previously repaid that amount, and will also pay a combined $600,000 in damages and penalties.
