President Trump has issued an executive order launching the “Genesis Mission,” a coordinated national effort to unleash a new age of AI‑accelerated innovation and discovery to solve the most challenging problems of this century. The Genesis Mission will build an integrated AI platform to harness Federal scientific datasets — the world’s largest collection of such datasets, developed over decades of Federal investments — to train scientific foundation models and create AI agents to test new hypotheses, automate research workflows, and accelerate scientific breakthroughs.
The order requires the Department of Energy to identify at least 20 science and technology challenges of national importance. The order further directs the Energy Department to develop partnership frameworks with industry. These frameworks will include cooperative research and agreements for data use and model sharing. DOE must report annually to the President on the status of research efforts, user engagement, and the scope of public-private partnerships.
