European Parliament: Facebook Must Explain its Misuse of Personal Data

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani has asked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to respond to allegations that the personal data of Facebook users was accessed to manipulate US elections.  London-based firm Cambridge Analytica is being accused of improperly using the personal data of 50 million Facebook users, without their consent, to target them through personalised political advertisements during the U.S. elections.

“I am deeply concerned by allegations that Cambridge Analytica harvested information from Facebook accounts without user consent, exposing key ethical issues surrounding the accountability and responsibility of powerful digital platforms,” Tajani said.
