Attorney and longtime government employee Jerry Walz founded PubKLaw after retiring from a robust and distinguished career in public service. Having spent 17 years as the chief of the Department of Commerce’s Contract Law Division, Jerry was in a unique position to share news and insights with the professional contract law community, and PubKLaw quickly became an invaluable resource for federal employees, contractors, and their counsel. Jerry continued publishing PubKLaw for more than a dozen years before he announced his second retirement. Recognized by many as a leader in the field, Jerry was awarded two Departmental Silver Medals by the Department of Commerce and named a Fellow by the ABA/Section of Public Contract Law.
Since Jerry’s retirement, the team at PubK has worked to continue his legacy of providing timely news and insights to the public contract law community. In 2015, the team added PubKCyber to our slate of publications, tracking legal and regulatory developments in cybersecurity for contractors at the state, federal, and international levels. In 2016, we launched PubKCompliance, a daily resource for compliance and legal professionals following False Claims Act and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement, suspension and debarment matters, and other issues related to waste, fraud, and abuse.
In 2015, PubK also hosted its first Annual Review of trends and developments in public contract law over the preceding year. Each year, two dozen leaders in the field convene to discuss the most important news in protest cases, claims, and other disputes; IP and cybersecurity; cost and pricing issues; False Claims Act enforcement; and new laws and regulations.
