California AG Releases Draft CCPA Regulations

On October 10th, California state attorney general Xavier Becerra released proposed implementing regulations concerning the California Consumer Privacy Act. The regulations address five main areas:

  • Notices to consumers, including their rights to opt out of data collection, and differences in pricing or services based on opting in/out
  • Business practices for handling consumer requests to opt out data collection
  • Verification of consumer requests
  • Special rules regarding the data of children under 13, and minors between 13 and 16 years
  • Rules regarding discrimination against consumers who opt out of data collection,  including requirements for calculating the value of their data
