A new survey found that few defense contractors are aware of the department’s impending Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, with only 24 percent of those responding able to accurately identify its abbreviation. Overall, the survey found contractors have “gotten the message” on the importance of cybersecurity, but few have implemented mitigation efforts to the imposing threats.
Bret Cohen of Tier1 Cyber, which conducted the survey, was also surprised by the low levels of trust defense contractors say they have for third-party vendors, with only 12 percent saying they trust them. Contractors showed little implementation of cyber mitigation efforts beyond “water cooler conversation” about the topic. Many employees’ personal devices lacked security software, and training was not a regular practice for many of the contractors surveyed.
