The Department of Justice has announced its first enforcement action filed in federal court against operators of a fraudulent website allegedly scheming to profit from COVID-19. The website allegedly offered consumers access to “World Health Organization vaccine kits” (which do not exist), in exchange for credit card information. DOJ obtained a temporary restraining order under federal law, requiring the registrar of the domain to block access to the website to prevent harm to potential victims. An investigation of the site and its operators continues.
