Representative John Katko (R-NY) voiced his support in committee for a number of NDAA amendments geared at heavily investing in the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, particularly its workforce. Katko is the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Innovation.
One proposal to be offered by Representative Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) would require CISA to report any additional resources necessary to fulfill its mission, and require GSA to provide a review within 30 days of that report. Another amendment, by subcommittee chair Representative Cedric Richmond (D-LA), would limit the CISA director to two five-year terms, but elevate it to the equivalent of a deputy secretary and military service secretaries, while categorizing assistant directors as career public servants, to “depoliticize” the positions. A third amendment, by Representative Mark Green (R-TN), would clarify CISA’s authority to conduct continuous threat hunting across the .gov domain.
