Senate Bill Would Also Block Spending Rescue Plan Funds on Huawei, ZTE

The American Telecommunications Security Act – introduced by Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) – would place additional restrictions on the use of telecom equipment from Huawei and ZTE, by prohibiting the use of American Rescue Plan funds to buy it. Smaller service providers drawing from the FCC’s Universal Service Fund – also aimed at improving rural broadband – are already prohibited from spending those funds on the blacklisted companies’ technology.
