RANSOMWARE Act and American Data Privacy and Prevention Act OK’ed by House Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee

A subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has approved the Reporting Attacks from Nations Selected for Oversight and Monitoring Web Attacks and Ransomware from Enemies (RANSOMWARE) Act, which would direct the FTC to report on cybersecurity trends and provide recommendations for securing the country against ransomware and cyberattacks in general.

The subcommittee also approved the American Data Privacy and Prevention Act, which would require covered entities to implement “reasonable” data protection measures by FTC standards, and report if they send any Americans’ data to China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran.
