In a national security Memorandum issued by President Biden on June 3, 2021, the administration has made clear that it considers anti-corruption efforts, including increased enforcement on both the “supply” and “demand” side of corruption, to be a top policy and law enforcement priority. The Memorandum on Establishing the Fight Against Corruption as a Core United States National Security Interest identifies corruption as a major threat to democracy, economic equity, and global development and directs a broad review to develop a government-wide strategy to significantly bolster national and international efforts to promote good governance and combat corruption.
