CISA/FBI Advisory Warns of Destructive Malware Used Against Ukraine

CISA and the FBI have issued a joint advisory alerting organizations of destructive malware that is actively being used to target organizations in Ukraine, with ongoing warnings of increased cyber-attacks against U.S. organizations, either targeted or from malware going viral. The malware in this case—WhisperGate and HermeticWiper—is used to “destroy computer systems and render them inoperable.” The advisory stresses that these are indicators of compromise that companies can detect and prevent, through the use of standard best practices: antivirus systems, anti-phishing filters, network traffic filters, updating software, and multifactor authentication.
