Federal SolarWinds Investigations Continue

Federal investigations into the SolarWinds attacks are still ongoing. A group of Florida lawmakers have demanded answers from Attorney General Merrick Garland about a related breach of Microsoft Office 365 email accounts at 27 U.S. attorneys’ offices throughout the country, during which Russian-linked attackers had access to large amounts of employees’ email data. At the federal level, the SEC is asking publicly traded companies that were targeted in the attack about whether they were breached, which could bring to light more information about known victims as well as additional instances. The requests are voluntary at this point, and companies would not be punished for disclosing details.
