Amendments filed to the Senate version of the National Defense Authorization Act by Senator Angus King (I-ME) and others would implement more than a dozen recommendations from the Solarium Commission which King co-chaired. They include:

  • An information sharing environment and forensic malware repository between CISA and the NSA
  • A Bureau of Cyber Statistics at the Department of Commerce
  • A Bureau of Cyberspace Security and Emerging Technology at the State Department
  • A strategy to secure foundational internet protocols and email
  • Security certification and labeling for information and communication technology products
  • Limiting the CISA director to a five-year term
  • Biennial tabletop cybersecurity exercises
  • A select committee in the Senate to focus on cybersecurity
