Inside sources indicate that President Biden’s upcoming executive order on cybersecurity will require federal contractors to meet software security standards and promptly report cyber incidents to DHS. The order is expected to establish a body for reporting cybersecurity incidents within CISA, modeled after the National Transportation Safety Board. DHS and the attorney general would also create a cybersecurity incident review board made up of individuals from the federal government and private sector, and CISA would be authorized to hunt threats in agencies other than the Defense Department. The scope of the EO’s measures are reportedly limited to federal agencies, leaving more broad initiatives under the authority of Congress.
