Following a cybersecurity summit including President Biden, government agency heads, and CEOs of private sector companies, the White House has announced initiatives to bolster supply chain and natural gas pipeline security, with promises of billions of dollars in corporate cyber spending. The initiatives include:
- NIST will work with industry to develop guidelines for secure technology.
- Microsoft will invest $20 billion in “cyber security by design”.
- Google will invest $10 billion on expanding zero-trust programs, securing the software supply chain, and improving open-source security.
- Apple will work with its suppliers to promote mass adoption of technology such as multi-factor authentication, security training, and vulnerability remediation.
- IBM will train 150,000 people in cybersecurity and partner with Historically Black Colleges & Universities to expand the cyber workforce.
- Amazon will make its internal security awareness training available to the public.
Initiatives were also announced by cyber insurance companies Resiliance and Coalition, non-profits Code.org and Girls Who Code, and the University of Texas and Whatcom Community College.
