An article in the Washington Post adds details to the just-released OIG report delivering humanitarian aid through the Gaza floating military pier. According to the article, Administration officials described the effort as a multiagency initiative to supplement relief through border crossings and airdrops. The OIG report calls for lessons learned from the initiative.

Rough seas and security concerns limited the usefulness of the Gaza pier to less than one month of use and a third of the humanitarian aid expected. USAID officials also felt that the effort distracted from the proven and more efficient overland routes that the USG and UN were negotiating with Israel.
