OIG Issues Update on Commercial Sex Allegations against Former USAID Mission Director

OIG initially reported in October an investigation into allegations that a former USAID mission director was the client of a commercial sex ring. The initial report noted that the Department of Justice declined to pursue the case while USAID pursued administrative remedies.

OIG has now announced that USAID’s Suspension and Debarment Official debarred the former mission director from government procurement and nonprocurement programs for 20 years for violating USAID’s Counter Trafficking in Persons policy and procuring commercial sex while employed by USAID as a Foreign Service Officer and as a contractor. As cautioned in a related LinkedIn post on this announcement, be sure to check SAM.gov no matter how good the resume looks.
