Getting Into DOGE: Opportunities for Commercial, Emerging Tech, and Traditional Government Contractors Due to Renewed Focus on Government Efficiency?
The authors of a recent opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal asserted that the federal government has too many rules and regulations, and that the federal government’s procurement process is “badly broken.” This piece was written by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the volunteer leaders of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) who have promised to “cut the federal government down to size.”
Leaving aside some of the more controversial aspects of DOGE, including implications to the federal workforce, there is certainly an opportunity for it to improve the efficiency of the government procurement system. There have been numerous similar attempts, with varying degrees of success, to reform government contracting over the past three decades. To focus on the government procurement issues raised by DOGE, the American Bar Association Public Contract Law Section Commercial Products and Services Committee has assembled a webinar featuring top experts to discuss the following and more:
Can DOGE achieve meaningful change where past reform efforts did not?
– What are the key government procurement regulations that apply to “cost plus” and traditional government contracting (e.g., FAR Part 15, domestic source restrictions, etc.)?
– Will DOGE resuscitate, and expand, commercial contracting and adopt some of the Section 809 panel recommendations to streamline acquisition regulations?
– What are the opportunities and challenges for traditional, commercial, and emerging tech government contractors presented by DOGE?
Join us on January 16, 2025, from 12-1:30 pm EST for a discussion on DOGE’s impact on government contracting. You can register for the webinar here: https://icemillermeet.webex.com/weblink/register/r916f4c3e83de427f7c21b5bac7646c0c
