The acting Secretary of Labor issued a directive on January 24th, ending all investigative and enforcement activities required by the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) order 11246. This directive, in line with a Trump executive order, nullified the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and threw out regulations and pending cases. The EEO order, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965, prohibited federal contractors from discriminating based on race, gender, or religious affiliation and required compliance reports. The new directive puts HR leaders at federal contractors in a tough spot, as DE&I initiatives they were pursuing could now violate new regulations.
