The Defense Department has updated its Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program, in part to establish an “authoritative lexicon based on the work an individual is performing, not their position titles, occupational series, or designator.” Currently much IT and cyber work is performed by individuals with traditional military titles that obscure the nature of that work. Under the new program, cybersecurity knowledge, skills and abilities will be integrated into qualification requirements for each cyber workforce role. On-the-job qualifications—as well as education, training, certification or experience requirements—must also be met.
