Haiti continues to experience catastrophic political, security, and humanitarian crises. Nearly 5.4 million Haitians were projected to face acute food insecurity, and more than 1 million were internally displaced by December 2024, a threefold increase from 2023. The U.S. government committed over $1.1 billion in assistance to Haiti between fiscal years 2021 and 2024, with increasing humanitarian aid since October 2022. USAID’s OIG will be conducting an audit of the oversight of humanitarian and development assistance as well as plans to transition more to local entities. While the it remains unclear if the USAID OIG will continue as a separate entity or be subsumed into State, the continued oversight of assistance to Haiti is essential.
