Secretary of State Marco Rubio approved another round of foreign aid cuts, taking aim at what the administration considers to be non-essential programs. The latest cuts focus on State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL). The terminated awards were described by administration officials as supporting “wasteful DEI, censorship, media diversity and advocacy, ‘civil society’ and ‘pro-democracy’ programming,” as well as NGOs whose activities don’t align with the administration’s priorities. The ultimate goal is to redirect these funds toward what the administration defines as “life-saving aid and strategic and national security priorities.”
