President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to set up his Department of Government Efficiency, charged with “modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.” The DOGE teams to be set up in each agency will be relatively small, focusing on “inter-operability between agency networks and systems, ensure data integrity, and facilitate responsible data collection and Resynchronization,” as stated in the EO.

This is a step back from earlier rhetoric on significant budget cuts, reductions in the federal workforce, streamlined regulations, and restructured agencies. Note that Vivek Ramaswamy has also stepped aside from the DOGE initiative to focus his attention on running for governor in Ohio.
