The use of domestic sources of financing for development activities remains an important supplement to international funding, Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM) seems to have slipped off the radar in recent years. Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) has been a consistent supporter of DRM and other country-led, sustainability efforts. They recently issued a notice that the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus for Effective Foreign Assistance, Representative Young Kim (R-CA) and Adam Smith (D-WA), requested an update on USAID’s Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM) work.
DRM activities are aligned with localization principles and are designed to help sustain and fund development activities using domestic financing sources. The letter asks for details on USAID’s DRM programming, how it is integrated into localization efforts, and how they measure success. The letter also asks for information on DRM programs implemented by the Treasury Department and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. A response is due by December 16, 2024.
