Nonprofit CEOs are starting to say the quiet part out loud. Recently, in closed-door convenings, in hallway conversations at conferences, and in one-on-one calls, I’m hearing more and more often from peers in the nonprofit space that mergers, acquisitions, and deep strategic partnerships might be necessary for their organizations’ survival. “It’s starting to feel like the Great Recession again,” one leader confided, “when everyone began talking about consolidation.”
