Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has signed a memo directing DoD to eliminate over $500 million in spending on “wasteful” programs, contracts, and grants. The memo orders DoD to eliminate the Defense Civilian Human Resources Management System software development program, which, the memo notes, is 6 years behind schedule and $280 million over budget. The memo also directs the elimination of $360 million in grants involving DEI and related programs that are not aligned with DoD priorities. The memo also mandates the termination of contracts with consulting firms providing “non-essential consulting services.”
