The presidents of the National Defense Industrial Association and the Professional Services Council are arguing that the need to respond to the coronavirus pandemic is a compelling reason to delay the effective date of provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act restricting the use of equipment and services from Huawei, ZTE, and their subsidiaries. The deadline to remove covered equipment is August 13. “COVID-19 has made the current implementation timeline infeasible,” reads a March 31 letter from NDIA President Herbert J. Carlisle and PSC President David J. Berteau to the chairs and ranking members of key congressional committees.
