Come join a group of smart and thoughtful colleagues at the U.S. Department of Commerce! We have a rare opportunity to hire a few attorneys to support our growing portfolio of work in the Federal Assistance Law Division (FALD) of Commerce’s Office of the General Counsel. Attorneys in FALD provide legal advice and services to Commerce officials and bureaus to support the implementation and administration of the Department’s wide-ranging efforts to effectuate policy for advancing environmental stewardship, international trade, export promotion, universal broadband, economic and minority business development, the U.S. semiconductor industry, and more.

Ideal candidates will have experience working on complex matters with tight deadlines, the ability to conduct accurate legal research, and be skilled at working with and presenting views to senior officials or lawyers. Familiarity with the law regarding federal grants or financial assistance programs is a plus but not required. This is a hugely important role, as selected candidates will be responsible for providing legal counsel to facilitate the award of billions of dollars in federal grant assistance. Grants are a key part of how federal policy gets achieved across a wide range of areas, and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Executive Branch action in this space.

Candidates must (1) possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university, (2) be licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney in any state, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, and (3) be an active member in good standing of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction.
